The Use of Hemp/CBD for Your Pet
The use of hemp dates back thousands of years. The plant has been praised for its durable fibers, which can be used to produce paper, rope, sails, and more. Industrial Hemp, which differs from Marijuana plants, is what is used to make CBD oil. Cannabidiol (CBD) is the non-psychoactive, naturally occurring compound found in Cannabis plants. CBD compounds do not make people or pets feel ‘high’, nor do they cause any lethargic after-effects.
Hemp and Marijuana are commonly mistaken for being interchangeable. While they are both derivatives of the Cannabis plant, widespread growth of the crop caused the evolution of two different strains – Hemp and Marijuana. The main difference between the two is the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. THC is the element that creates psychoactive reactions, or feelings of being ‘high’. Having very low levels of THC in comparison to Marijuana, Hemp’s strong point is cannabidiol, or CBD.
CBD is a naturally occurring compound found in Cannabis plants. Hemp-derived CBD is known to alleviate many side effects of symptoms and conditions, without the psychoactive effects of THC.* CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, or ECS, in the body, which is our vast network of cell receptors. ECS is a neurotransmitter system that controls seemingly everything such as appetite, immunity, mood, bone development, sleep and much more. Known for its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-anxiety properties, when CBD enters the body it is picked up by ECS receptors to create these therapeutic effects in the necessary areas of the body.*
